| Additional Programs:
- The Huff Run VISTA took steps to establish a children’s version of the HRWRP called the Environmental Explorer’s Club that will meet at the new Nicole Donant Library. - Awareness Day programming was revamped as well as the Awareness Day booklets and new teachers have been reached about the event through presentations at schools. - A Watch Dog Program has been started to give watershed residents contact information for environmental emergencies. The residents will be able to contact agencies in charge of problems they find. Grants: - Rural Action in conjunction with the HRWRP were awarded a US EPA Targeted Watershed Grant which will pay for one large restoration project (the Belden project), many new and continuing environmental education programs, and the Coordinator’s salary through 2008. (only new grant awarded this year) - Rural Action took over the ODNR/ EPA Watershed Coordinator Grant to fund the Watershed Coordinator’s salary through 2006. - Work continues on the Ohio EPA 319 grant that Crossroads RC&D administers for four restoration projects, environmental outreach, funding for the HRWRP office and Coordinator. This grant will expire in October 2006. - Work also continues on the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant that the HRWRP administers for wildlife planting on the Lyons Reclamation Project. - Crossroads RC&D also administers an Appalachian Clean Stream grant from the Office of Surface Mining for restoration at the Mineral-Zoar Road Project. - The HRWRP also administers an Appalachian Clean Stream grant from the Office of Surface Mining for restoration of the Fern Hill (HR-42) Pits. Press: - Two Water Marks issues were published and distributed. - Twenty (known) articles were published in the Times Reporter. - Eight (known) articles were published in the Tuscarawas County Bargain Hunter. - One (known) article was published in the Farm and Dairy. - Three (known) articles were published in the Free Press Standard. - Four articles (or mentioned in articles) were published in the monthly Office of Surface Mining Pittsburgh Field Division Newsletters. - One article was published in the Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District Office newsletter. -Three (known) radio spots were on WJER. - Many mentions about Huff Run were in the ODNR/MRM 2004 Annual Report (printed and distributed July 2005). - The HRWRWP was also mentioned in East Central Ohio Chapter of Pheasants Forever’s Annual Report/ Invite to annual meeting. Displays: - Tuscarawas County Fair - Carroll County Fair - Forest Heritage Festival - Carroll Soil and Water Conservation District Annual Meeting - ODNR/ MRM Applied Research Conference Memberships and Donors: (2005-2006, to date) - Eight family memberships - Fourteen individual memberships - Five financial donors - Thirteen 5K donors Meetings: - Twelve HRWRP regular meetings were held with an average of 12 members present. - Four TAC meetings were held. - Three TAC Watershed Plan subcommittee meetings were held. Water Quality Sampling: - One hundred and seventy one (171) chemical water quality samples were taken at a total of six projects (Linden, Lindentree, HRWRP Acid Pit, Harsha South, Tributaries, Farr) with 36 sites. - Two fish shocking studies were conducted by Mount Union College and Midwest Biological Institute. - One macroinvertebrate study was conducted by Midwest Biological Institute. |
