Chairman Ed Taggart called the August 21, 2007 meeting to order at 5:30 pm.

MINUTES: Broadwater gave minutes from July 17, 2007 meeting. 

MOTION Halter made motion to approve the June 19, 2007 minutes of HRWRP meeting, seconded by Steinmaus, motion passed with a vote: all yes. 

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL:  Chairman Taggart announced membership renewals are due.  Membership fees will remain at $5.00 per person, $10.00 per family.  Bo Hysong informed the group Bruce Beck expressed an interest in joining HRWRP.  Wise to contact Beck. 

OLD BUSINESS
PARTY IN PARK:  Wise gave report about the August 19, 2007 “Party in Park” held in Mineral City park.
HRWRP booth made 37 Acid mine drainage children’s t-shirts,
Popcorn sales and donations generated $43.00; plus a $50 donation and a $10 donation and two family memberships,
Children  made 16 bookmarks and 28 sketchbooks,
29 people participated in running the 5K, 5K fees generated $273.00, an additional $100.00 in sponsorships were collected.  HRWRP members discussed possible improvements to the 5K for next year.  Discussion included changing the 5K fees to create a pre-registration incentive, joining the Tuscarawas Valley runners challenge, forming a “Party in Park” committee sometime in January to include dedicated HRWRP participant runners. Broadwater expressed dismay with the 5K traffic-control, wants to find way to improve it for next year. 
Taggart thanked all members who helped with the August 18th tent set-up, and hanging of the new HRWRP sign to the front of the HRWRP office building. 

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY REMINDER:  Taggart reminded members of the September 22, clean-up starting at 9:00 am.  This will mark the first date of HRWRP Adopt-a-highway clean-up on route 800 south of Mineral City.  Wise will purchase drinks for the clean-up date.

NEW BUSINESS

PROJECT UPDATES:  Wise gave updates on the following environmental projects: Leachate Testing, Belden Project site, Harsha North, Farr, and Mineral Zoar project.
FALL TOUR  Wise discussed the fall 2007 Fall Tour for local elected and appointed governmental agency officials and environmental agency professionals, and paying for the event with a Targeted Watershed grant.  No bus rental will occur this year.  Wise and other members will look into renting or borrowing vans.  The group discussed having a lunch meal for the Fall Tour participants at Crossroads Restaurant.    

MOTION: Broadwater made motion to hold Fall Tour on October 18, 2007, Seconded by Toms, motion passed with a vote: all yea. 

VISTA AD Wise provided update on VISTA search.  Two prospective applicants have expressed interest.  Wise must hire a VISTA by mid September for mid November start. 

MOTION: Broadwater made motion to purchase VISTA classified advertisements, Seconded by Sonny, motion passed with a vote: all yea.

7TH GRADE CURRICULUM Wise shared with group previous work conducted by previous VISTA Michelle Shively.  Shively generated a 7th grade environmental science curriculum with other local 7th grade science teachers.  Wise shared the benefits of continuing the curriculum.  Belle Everett will assist Wise with producing paper copies of this program.  Steinmaus expressed the importance of keeping a personal touch on the program.  Broadwater said he is willing to assist with distributing the program to local teachers.  Wise will contact Broadwater at further date to coordinate distribution. Taggart also expressed an interest in helping distribute and print the program materials.

WEBSITE:  Wise shared with members that she will be revamping the website this fall with a new, free program that Nate Wise found. .  Nate Wise specializes in website production and design. He will help with programming a few extras for the website and because of this work, his company agreed to host the site at no charge to HRWRP.

MOTION: Hysong made motion to have Nate Wise pursue a new HRWRP website, Seconded by Broadwater, motion passed with a vote: all yea.

JUST GIVE:  Wise informed group of Just Give, an online contribution system specific for non-profit organizations.  Just Give runs the online credit card donations, with a link from the particular group’s website.  Fees include a 3% service charge on all donations received through the system.  Discussion involved an easier membership recruitment tool, and future event sign-ups. 

TABLED: Discussion of the Just Give system until more information could be obtained. 

CORRESPONDENCE:  Taggart shared the following correspondence with members:  Office of Surface Mining July Newsletter, Thank you card from Michelle (Shively) Shaw Thank you note from Jeanne Russell of Ohio Department of Natural Resources,

Steinmaus informed members of the Southeastern Ohio Watershed Council meeting scheduled for September 20th running from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.  Any interested HRWRP members should contact Taggart or Wise to coordinate carpooling. Steinmaus also mentioned he monitored a personnel evaluation of Wise’s performance earlier that day with HRWRP leadership, and results will be shared at the next meeting.
