Harsha North
back to projects page
Harsha North is the highest contributor of AMD contamination and also high in iron, acidity, and aluminum contribution. It was ranked second highest of all sites by the Huff Run group. The site is primarily toxic coal refuse piles and highwalls along with areas affected by deep mine entries, deep mine drainage and unreclaimed contour surface mines. The Harsha sites are located in the middle of the watershed.
An Ohio EPA 319 grant administered by Crossroads RC&D along with an OSM Clean Streams grant were secured to fund this project. Aid from our local solid waste districts helped remove trash from the site. Harsha North was completed in November 2006.
